According to payment processor Retail Solutions, £767,500 was spent in just 1 minute yesterday by UK online shoppers. Breaking all previous records the amount was recorded at 13.09, which reflects the theory that employees use their lunch hours to do their Christmas shopping at their desks and therefore avoid the High Street crush.
It is also expected that yesterday will become the country's biggest ever online shopping day with up to £370 million being spent.
The items in greatest demand were apparently games and accessories for the Nintendo Wii followed by the iPod Shuffle and the iPod Nano.
Online spending is now expected to reach over £50 billion for the whole year. £30.2 billion was the total for last year.
