Creative content overtakes keyword research

Compared to a few years ago, Search Engine Optimisation is much more competitive and the number of web pages indexed by the Search Engines have nearly quadrupled. Site owners and webmasters now have a little more knowledge - and a little knowledge is a dangerous thing! In the past, the majority of websites didn't think much about the search engines and high ranking could be achieved quite readily.

However, nowadays it is very different. It can still be very difficult to obtain high rankings for even obscure keywords or phrases that no one is searching for. Once the ranking has been achieved there is no guarantee at all that it will be in the same position the following day. Needless to say new businesses and new websites find it extremely difficult to achieve a high ranking.

Within the SEO industry, the focus is moving away from positioning in the rankings to how more traffic can be drawn to the site and then converted into customers. Those looking for SEO services unfortunately are still rather blinkered and fail to see the larger picture. When setting business goals it would be much more appropriate to state that the aim is to attract more traffic and customers to your site than try and achieve number one ranking on Google.

The competition is fierce for rankings and concentrating on specific keywords in an aggressive industry such as health care or insurance is now a blinkered view and a much broader one should be taken. New fresh content is essential and instead of using the 'same old same old' keywords try a fresh approach by researching the keywords that are being searched for. Content is unique. It is an idea that popped into your head at an obscure time and that no one else has thought of. Being creative is an art and one which appears to be a dying one. Forget what you want in terms of ranking and concentrate on what you need - more traffic.
