Google have developed their own operating system Android, as it continues with the development of mobile phone technology. Access to the internet will be much easier from a mobile phone as Android is designed to operate on a variety of handsets. The London branch of Google have been delegated with the task of developing the device to work on a selection of over 50 handsets.
It is estimated the mobile advertising industry is set to grow to around £4 billion by 2012 and Google are set to tap into this market with their new technology. Consumers are set to benefit too as other operators will be encouraged to develop their technology to provide better products.
Google users could benefit from free news alerts, mapping and e-mails which would make their service cheaper to use than other operators. They have also developed a way of making typing on the phone more accurate - users feel they are touching keys rather than just a glass surface. By pressing 0 on the phone new technology in the handset will tell the user exactly where they are standing. The phone will also be able to provide public transport information to the extent of sending alerts to the user when a bus is around the corner!
The financial might of Google is unsettling to the competition as Google themselves have hinted that they may purchase a portion of the airwaves (which is up for sale by the US Government)and bring their product to the marketplace without the help of an existing carrier.
The search Goliath is set to expand even more!
